How to Build a Pumping Schedule

A consistent pumping schedule is one of the most important factors in maintaining milk supply. The key is to pump frequently enough to signal your body to keep producing milk.

For newborns, most lactation consultants recommend 8–12 sessions per day. As your baby grows and your supply regulates, you can gradually reduce to 6–8 sessions per day.

If you're returning to work, aim to pump every 3 hours during your workday to match your baby's feeding schedule. Read our guide on pumping schedule for working moms for more tips.
